Small tortoiseshell

It's another sunny day but with sporadic cloud cover and still no let up in the cold wind that seems to have been with us non-stop this year.

A tortoiseshell butterfly pauses on the road. You would think that with all the flowers and greenery around it would find a safer and more inviting place to rest.

Maybe the butterfly is attracted to the warmth from the tarmac while taking shelter from the cold wind. It really is a cold wind with some people in their winter ski wear and no wonder when the occasional gusts feel like a freezer door being opened.
