Kestrel II

Cheated of a great shot. Once again I spot the 'kestrel' perched on the concrete post but this time my balcony door is open. I grab my camera and quietly sneak onto the balcony, but before I have lifted the camera it has flown away, despite having its back to me - must have eyes in the back of its head!

I fire off four wild shots knowing they will be out of focus but this one shot at least showed its distinctive markings, especially its blue rump patch. In fact this distinctive blue rump does not seem to be a feature of the common kestrel or lesser kestrel and I could find no similar falcon/hawk on the Internet with such a distinctive rump. So for the moment it is still a bit of a mystery.

Dekker - Small wins
