Fungi galore

 

One positive aspect of this wet summer, aside from giving tadpoles a fighting chance, is the abundance of fungi in the forest. It looks like autumn will provide plenty to choose from. I came across this fungi today, which I think might be 'hen of the woods' and could be edible. The slugs certainly seemed to think so, which is a good sign. I have eaten something similar before and it was excellent fried in butter. However I am always wary, so always check carefully as there are often similar ones that can be poisonous.
